Our Church
- Good News Presbyterian Church is an evangelical and reformed congregation that seeks to worship in a manner that is joyful, reverent, and in accord with Scripture.
Our Philosophy of Music
- We strive to join quality tunes with lyrics that are biblically sound, God-centered, and in accord with the Reformed theological perspective summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith. We have found that the majority of hymns that meet these criteria are the classic Christian hymns (Watts, Wesley, etc.), though we are always looking for more recent compositions.
Organization and Accountability
- The Music Director will oversee the music program of the church, working under the authority of the Session and directly under the Pastor.
We are seeking a Music Director who demonstrates
- A commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and desire to serve and honor him.
- Strong keyboard ability, preferably with church music experience.
- Training and/or experience conducting a vocal ensemble/choir.
- A desire to encourage and mobilize church members to use their musical gifts.
- Punctuality and efficient use of practice time.
Areas of Responsibility (2-3 hours per week)
- Play piano for the Sunday morning worship service
- Practice the songs for the upcoming Sunday with our vocal ensemble
- Select and purchase (with budgeted funds) music that is in accord with our philosophy of music. When in doubt, consult the Pastor on the theological content of songs.
- The vocal ensemble currently practices after the Sunday morning worship service for 20-30 minutes. Pray with the vocalists and help them appreciate the message of the songs and their important role in leading worship.
- On some weeks practice with soloists (duets, etc.) to prepare offertory music.
Remuneration
- The initial wage will be $80 per week for Sunday mornings (A & B above) and $30 per unit of off-site practice with soloists, duets, etc. (C above). As the Music Director strengthens and grows our church's music program, the compensation will grow.
Vacation / Sick Leave
- We are flexible and will work with you.
Job Evaluation
- The Music Director will have a yearly job evaluation by the session of the church.
